The dry membrane should be stored away from direct sunlight in a minimum relative humidity of 35% at a temperature of 23ºC. Membranes keep well under these conditions but should always be examined to ensure no drying out has occurred. The impurities present as a result of the manufacturing processes may be removed by various methods depending upon how clean the membrane has to be for your purposes. Some cleaning of the membrane is necessary in all cases because the glycerine must be removed before the membranes function properly. The simplest method which will remove the glycerine is washing the membrane in warm water. For more complete cleaning three methods are recommended. CLEANING METHOD 1 CLEANING
METHOD 2 CLEANING
METHOD 3 After cleaning, the membranes should be stored, fully immersed, in one of the following; 1% Formaldehyde, 1% sodium benzoate or 0.1% sodium azide solutions, at 4ºC. If the membrane is to be stored for only a short period it will be possible to immerse the membrane in distilled water, ensuring full coverage at all times We are interested in hearing your experiences of using these or any other cleaning and storage processes and would welcome e-mails so that we can develop our database further. Please read the disclaimer relating to these data.
